How To Use Reflection For Self-Improvement

Over and over your thoughts are on instant replay. You are recapping the situation or event with no clear resolution in sight. Are the things you are reflecting on affecting your ‘now’? Reflective thoughts are past events that continue to affect our present. The emotions that are generated through this process is evidence enough that reflective thought impact our lives. Anger, pain, regret are some of the emotions that can linger on for an extended period of time.

Often times, we relive our mistakes or the mistakes of others. We ponder on our faults with no clearly defined purpose. This does not fully utilize our brain’s ability to problem solve and reflect on past experiences with the ultimate goal of self-improvement. Adding the self-improvement component to your reflective thoughts allows you to analyze your thoughts to find out

  1. Are there any lessons I can learn from this situation?
  2. What could I have done better?
  3. Moving forward, what do I need to change?

We can spend a lot of time thinking about what happened or what we did or did not do but very little time thinking about what we need to do differently. Focusing on “What I need to do”  is extremely important. Instead of focusing on what changes other people need to make, we need to focus on ourselves since change should begin with us. The self-improvement mindset may not always help us to solve the problem but we will be way ahead in our efforts to keep learning from our life experiences. (C)

THE MAN BEHIND "EVIL UNDER THE CIRCLE"

"Several years ago, I became disabled.  Following an injury, I discovered a dark secret of that horrible polio’: it can come back to haunt you, rendering you severely incapacitated even if you seemed to have escaped unscathed!  A little more writing stuttered out as my mobility was eroded."

The Benefits Of Thinking Outside Of The Box

A life-long sentence to mental imprisonment surrounded only by the bars of our thoughts is a recipe for boredom and a life devoid of much creativity. Diverse minds collaborating and sharing ideas create a synergistic type of reaction spurring on imaginative and innovative thoughts.

Breaking out of mental imprisonment we can look beyond our own personal experiences and  listen to the ideas of other. We can make an attempt to understand diverse points of view and as a result break loose from the chains of our  thoughts.

Thinking outside of the box prevents us from being confined to our own world for life. We can only live one life at a time but we can get a glimpse of what life means to other people by listening and paying attention to the perspective of others.

This creates the setting for us to look beyond our own viewpoint and circumstances opening up our minds to new ideas and different ways of doing things. This is the process of ongoing social education where we can learn new things allowing ourselves to think outside the box. (C)

Those Who Walk With Us

Remembering the people who are walking alongside us, propping us up, holding our hands during those critical points in our lives. Those who faithfully stand at our sides directing us as we move past traumatic life changing events to a safe place. We would never be where we are if those people did not touch our lives.

Let us all say “Thank You” to those people. We owe them for the physical and emotional support they wholeheartedly gave and keep giving. Those who carry us when our knees are weak and our hearts are broken. They stand at our sides like rocks, sometimes without even muttering a word but so supportive during those moments.

Those shining stars who care for us and support us. Look into their eyes and be grateful for their presence, their love and kindness. Those who are walking on their own stressful paths but keep us in close view glancing at us, sparing us from falling on the stones and bricks in our way. I cannot imagine life without those people who walk with us. (C)

Pain

Pain is “whatever the experiencing person says it is, existing whenever the experiencing person says it does” (McCaffery, 1968, p.95). The pain experience is highly individualized overshadowed by cultural and social influences which determine which coping mechanisms we  use.

Pain is managed by each of us differently .Managing pain can also be very challenging especially when you have to decide if you prefer to be alert, oriented and in pain or pain-free and drowsy. It all comes down to what is really important at the time and what your pain tolerance level is.

The challenge is to marry safety and cultural preferences in the most caring kind manner allowing every person in pain to be involved in the pain management process. (C)

A Flower For You

A Flower For You

I made so many awesome friends and met a lot of interesting, fun people in the blogging community. Thank you for all you have done to make this experience enjoyable! I may not be able to post on my blog for the next couple of days but I will do so as soon as I humanly can :) :)

The world and You

Life is not always a happy, fun journey. Mentally and physically we find the courage to face and come to terms with our worst fears. This is not always an easy thing to do. Everyday people are dealing with traumatic life events. Support from family and friends is great but it is also very rewarding to be able to support others in their struggles.Image

No one should live in isolation away from the world. Think of how may people it took to make the clothes you are wearing or the car you are driving. We are so dependent on each other and it is an awesome concept to think about how we are all intertwined and affect each other’s lives.

Today I am reflecting on how I impact the people around me and vice versa. We are continuously making a contribution to this global communication network. I think that sometimes we downplay our impact. If you ever dare to think that you are not important, think again because you are important! You contribute to the world. (C)

Why Solitude?

Solitude

Solitude

Beam me up, transport me to that bench!  I wish I was sitting on that bench in this moment,  spending time with Patricia, relaxing, pondering and reflecting on my life. In solitude you will find contentment. You will be alone but never lonely. A  peaceful, serene, tranquil environment isolated from the influence of others create the scenery for deep thought and innovative brewing.

Clear your mind, listen to yourself, get to know you and heal as you enjoy peacefulness. Embrace solitude because quiet time helps us to face our most innermost thoughts and fears. Private time allows us to get comfortable with who we are and get a glimpse of where we are positioned in this world.  We clear our minds. It is in those quiet moments of solitude that we become thinkers  solidifying the pillars of our thoughts.

In the silence you can hear the drop of a pin and the hushing sound of the breeze brushing against your ear. Looking around we realize that we, all of us belong to this huge universe and we are but a tiny dot. It is awesome to be alive and be part of this global beauty. (C)
